With today's economy it is hard to save money let alone keep funds on hand for necessities between paychecks. Everything costs a fortune and only getting worse. Long before financial institutions instantiated alternate savings programs (where they put certain funds into a savings account based on your spending), I have instantiated a similar program for myself that is a bit more aggressive but successful. This short and sweet guide explains my system and I hope you see it as a way to generate a good backup for "rainy days".
I say "trick" because if you are like me, if you know you have funds to spend you will eventually spend it. I like to live large and sometimes go overboard. Therefore, I need something that will be out-of-sight and out-of-mind - thus tricking myself into saving money.
This system won't make you rich but it will help you accumulate more funds than you have today. I use the word "rich" to implicate this accumulation. This not a get-rich-quick scheme or anything like that - just something you can start today to feel better about being able to save money.
